The Timișoara Municipal Sports Club brings sports to the city center and transforms the Uszoda area and Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard into the largest area dedicated to sports and outdoor activities in Timișoara. For three days, car traffic gives way to competitions, sports demonstrations, and sports activities for the entire community. As part of the 2026 edition of Timișoara City Celebration, taking place from July 31 to August 2, Timișoara residents and visitors are invited to participate in sports activities for all ages, introductory sports sessions, competitions, and demonstrations.
The program organized by SCM Timișoara will include showcase games, introductory sports activities, rugby, mini and baby handball, challenges and contests with prizes, and recreational activities for all ages. In addition to the activities organized by the Timișoara Municipal Sports Club, the area will also host projects developed by sports sector operators and funded by the City of Timișoara through SCM, as part of the “City in Motion” program.
“Sports build communities and bring people together, and Central Park has extraordinary potential and can become a much more lively place than it is today. We want to revitalize it through movement and sports activities, to make the most of the basketball courts that are already open to everyone, and, in the future, through the skatepark project. And on Timișoara City Celebration, we’re transforming this area and part of Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard into a space dedicated to the community. Together with SCM Timișoara and the city’s sports organizations, we’re organizing activities and competitions for all ages, so that children, young people, and their families can come together, get active, and enjoy our city together.”
The temporary transformation of major boulevards into spaces dedicated to sports and the community is a practice adopted by an increasing number of cities around the world. From New York and Paris to Sydney and Tokyo, local governments periodically return the streets to the people and transform them into venues for exercise, sports competitions, and recreational activities, organized in collaboration with sports clubs and community organizations. By transforming the Uszoda area and Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard as part of Timișoara City Celebration, Timișoara is joining this international trend and proposing a model of a city where public space becomes—even if only for a few days—a place for gathering, sports, and community life.

SCM Timișoara: A Decade of Athletic Excellence and Investment in Community Sports
The Timișoara Municipal Sports Club (SCM), which entered its second decade of activity in 2026, is the city’s leading promoter of competitive sports and one of the most important players in the development of community sports. Founded in 2015, during a difficult period for sports in Timișoara, SCM has continued the tradition of excellence and brought Timișoara 10 major senior-level trophies, with the club’s teams representing the city in national and international competitions. Beyond athletic performance, Sport Club Municipal Timișoara develops community-focused programs, encourages an active lifestyle, and offers free access to sports activities for children, youth, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities, with the goal of building a healthier and more united community.
Between July 31 and August 3, 2026, Timișoara City Celebration transforms the city into a grand celebration of community, culture, and urban experiences. The theme of this year’s edition is “Diversity,” and the central message— “One city. A thousand ways to experience it. Diversity.”—invites the public to discover Timișoara through different perspectives, communities, and experiences. In this context, the event continues to serve as a platform dedicated to promoting major festivals and cultural organizations that contribute to the city’s creative identity. Admission to all events in the program is free. The event’s program is currently being updated on the official website.
The “Timișoara City Celebration” event is funded by the City of Timișoara and coordinated and co-organized by the Center for Projects and the House of Culture.
