“Tovarășu’” reveals the life story of Nicolae Ceaușescu, who rose from poverty to extreme power. Over the course of three episodes, the documentary traces his evolution: in the first part, his troubled childhood and youth, marked by deprivation, loneliness, and imprisonment; in the second part, the “cold hammer” of his Stalinist indoctrination, which allowed him to consolidate his rule at home and win over superpowers around the world; finally, the years of madness in which “Tovarășu’” rants at a nation where fear mingles with hunger and rage, culminating in his execution—the only bloody one in Eastern Europe.
