Every year, on August 3, we celebrate Timișoara —a day with profound historical and symbolic significance for the city. The date marks the entry of Romanian troops into Timișoara in 1919 and the establishment of the first Romanian administration, following intense international negotiations and in a complex geopolitical context, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With the support of France, Great Britain, and the United States, the historic Banat region was divided, with two-thirds going to Romania, a moment officially ratified on August 3, 1919. Today, 106 years later, Timișoara celebrates its past and looks to the future.
The official events on August 3 begin with wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to General Virgil Economu (9:00 a.m., Petru Maior Square), continue with a military-religious ceremony in Unirii Square (12:30 p.m.), and in the evening, at 6:00 p.m., the Local Council's festive meeting will take place at the Capitol Hall—a solemn moment, open to all those who feel they are part of this city's story.
We invite you to remember, honor, and celebrate together everything that Timișoara stands for.
