We wait for the evening coolness and start our guided walk through the oldest neighborhood of Timișoara, the Cetate district.

We will find out why Charles Robert of Anjou moved the capital of Hungary to Timișoara, why Matthias Corvinus grew up on the banks of the Bega, how Timișoara became a Turkish city and how long it was a Turkish city. We will follow in the footsteps of Eugeniu of Savoy and the Count Mercy, who radically transformed the city in the early 1700s. We will learn what a bastion fortress is and how it differs from a medieval one. We will imagine gentlemen in tophats and ladies in elegant dresses as we talk about the second great transformation of Timișoara in the early 1900s. We'll find out what the city looked like in the inter-war and communist periods and how the 1989 Revolution began.
