The band Blazzaj was founded in 1998, in Timisoara, Timisoara, from the meeting and musical collaboration between Florin Barbu and Eddie Neumann, two passionate artists who found each other beyond the rehearsal programme in their common desire to explore new sonic territories. The band's name is an original play on words: ‘blazare’ and “jazz” spelled backwards, but also a hint of their unique style - a kind of ‘jazzalb’, meaning jazz with a healthy dose of colour, humour and freedom. The two founders set out on the road with other musicians from diverse musical backgrounds - from jazz and classical to hardcore - and created a musical universe of their own, where funk is just the main fuel for a sound machine full of nuances, playful rhythms and vibrant improvisations.
In more than two decades of activity, Blazzaj has proven to be a chameleonic band, ever-changing, but constantly true to the idea of freshness and artistic freedom. Every gig is a burst of energy and imagination: tales of dancing cars, gilded ghettos, fantastical animals and absurd characters, all in a savoury mix of sarcasm, dreaminess and groove. Their electrifying stage presence has brought them alongside big names such as Al Jarreau, Al Di Meola, Parov Stelar and the Dandy Warhols, but also into the hearts of an audience always hungry for intelligent and lively music. Blazzaj offers not just a concert, but a complete experience, a continuous dance between jazz, funk and urban poetry, which deserves to be experienced live.
